Shocking new footage of a pub beer garden car crash has been released as the landlady said it was a ‘miracle’ no one was hurt.
Punters at the Hare and Hounds were just inches away from a Volvo that ploughed through the Skelmersdale pub’s beer garden in the days after Christmas.
LancsLive reported at the time how team at the pub were left with £2,000 of damage following the crash that thankfully injured nobody.
New footage of the aftermath of the crash now shows the state of the pub beer garden after the incident last Monday (December 27).
The driver of the car ran off as customers came out of the pub to find out what happened, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Andrea Lesbirel, manager of the Hare and Hounds, told LancsLive the fact no-one was hurt was a “miracle”, although the car caused more than £2,000 worth of damage.
Video footage has emerged that shows the scene after the 11pm crash, as emergency workers arrived at the pub. The footage shows a large planter that appears to have been shattered and smashed picnic tables.
Andrea said there were two men in the car who both ran off after the crash.
She said: “The driver and front seat passenger both ran off after the crash. I think we would like to know more exactly what caused them to crash.
“Ormskirk Road is a 20mph zone. It’s a quiet, residential area. It really is fortunate nobody was seriously injured. Obviously the drinking area at the front of the pub is normally a lot more busy.”
Andrea explained the smash had left the pub owner with a large bill.
She said: “There was £2,000 worth of damage because the picnic benches are around £200 to £300 each and the planters were bespoke so they were made for the pub and they were about £500 each. They were really big and obviously we’ve got to replace the bollards.”
The pub managed to re-open as normal on Tuesday after locals worked hard to make the scene safe.
Andrea said: “It didn’t effect opening hours, we were able to open next day. It was all cleared up in the morning. The local residents helped us to clear it up.”
Lancashire Constabulary attended the incident and are appealing to the public for information.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We are appealing for information after a road traffic collision at the Hare and Hounds on Ormskirk Road in Skelmersdale. It occurred around 11pm on Monday (December 27).
“We are keen to identify the driver of the car.”
Anyone with information can call 101 or email [email protected] quoting log 1424 of December 27.
