EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A deadly crash Monday morning in East Providence is under investigation.
The crash took place around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Warren and Waterman avenues.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a vehicle had failed to turn at the intersection, drove over the traffic island and into the woods surrounding a restaurant’s parking lot before coming to rest on its roof.
The driver, identified as Phillip Holub, 31, of Boston, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say he was the only person inside the vehicle at the time.
An initial investigation shows speed was a factor in the crash, according to police.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation responded to fix the traffic lights and crosswalk signal that were affected by the crash.
