OTTAWA COUNTY, MI — A Christmas crash has left two people hospitalized in Spring Lake Township.
At about 12:06 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 25, sheriff’s deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash on 148th Avenue south of Kelly Street, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were advised two people were pinned inside the vehicle, police said.
Upon deputies’ arrival, police said they found two men from Muskegon pinned inside a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 23-year-old driver had been heading south when he drifted off the righthand side of the road, police said.
As the Jeep continued driving in the ditch, it struck a raised driveway and became airborne, striking two trees causing both occupants to become trapped inside, police said. Spring Lake Township firefighters were able to extricate the driver and his 24-year-old passenger, police said.
Both the driver and passenger were then taken via ambulance to a Muskegon-area hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said. Deputies did not say if they believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
