WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said a man in his 30s died in a two-vehicle crash north of Garden Plain. The crash happened Friday around 9 a.m. near 295th Street West and 21st Street North.
The sheriff’s office said a Toyota Camry heading north on 295th Street West ran a stop sign crossing 21st Street North. The Camry was then struck on the driver’s side door by a Ford Focus heading east.
The 36-year-old man driving the Camry was ejected and died at the scene. A 38-year-old woman in the Camry was seriously injured and transported to the hospital. Her injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
The 19-year-old man driving the Focus was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Anytime that you see an intersection that has flashing lights, it’s because there have been similar incidents in the past,” said Lt. Jason Gill, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. “This is an intersection that we worked a couple of accidents before. The thing is, I’m sure people run these stop signs all the time. There just happened to be someone there today that caused a collision.”
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash. It has not released any names yet.
