A police officer has been sanctioned and removed from driving duties after an unbelievable crash on a Leicester street.

Pictures have just emerged online which show a Leicestershire Police car propped up in the air against another vehicle.

The unusual sight happened following a crash on Grasmere Street in Leicester, close to both the Leicester Royal Infirmary and De Montfort University, late last year.

The officer – a serving PC with the force – suffered a minor injury in the crash, while the other car was unoccupied.

The crash is thought to have happened when the officer mistakenly reversed into the other vehicle, leaving the police car pushed up into the unusual position.

A picture of the crash, which happened in November last year, emerged on social media this week and prompted a series of incredulous responses.

β€œCan’t park there mate,” said one person.

β€œDeffo getting a ticket for parking on double yellows,” added another.

The property, which is seen in the picture, was not damaged in the incident.

In a statement, Leicestershire Police confirmed that the officer involved had been reprimanded for the crash.

β€œThe officer driving the car was sanctioned following the incident, receiving points on her police licence and having her driving authority rescinded, pending the completion of a further driving course,” said a spokesman.
