Man dies after being pinned between his vehicle and a trailer in multi-vehicle crash
One person was killed died and several others were injured on Saturday evening when a truck jackknifed on Highway 1 between Salmon Arm and Sicamous, blocking all lanes of traffic.
In a statement, the B.C. RCMP said the incident occurred at 6 p.m. — halfway between the two communities — and involved several commercial tractor-trailer units, a cube van and other motor vehicles.
“Early investigation determined that a chain reaction collision started when an eastbound flat-deck tractor-trailer unit jackknifed and completely blocked all three lanes of the highway — one eastbound and two westbound,” the statement read.
One man died at the scene, pinned between the vehicle he was driving and the trailer of another vehicle that “came to rest in front of his.”
Six people were taken to hospital by the B.C. Ambulance Service.
Highway 1 at the scene of the accident remained closed Sunday while crews worked to clear the roadway of the vehicles and debris. A detour has been established.
Anyone with information about the collision or with dash camera footage should contact Sicamous RCMP at 250-836-2878.
