WEBB, N.Y. – Town of Webb Police Chief Ron Johnston says his team is investigating a fatal snowmobile crash that happened Friday afternoon.

Johnston says it happened at intersection 29 in the town of Webb’s trail system near Clear Pond off of Rondaxe and Carter roads.

Katelyn Needham of Downingtown, PA was found to have collided with a tree off the trail and sustained a severe head injury. Needham was pronounced dead a short time later prior to being transported from the scene.

The preliminary investigation shows that rider inexperience and speed were among causing factors in the accident. The investigation is still ongoing. The Town of Webb Police Department was assisted by both the Inlet Police Department and the Old Forge Fire Department.
