WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Update 11:30 a.m. Lieutenant Jason Gill of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department said a vehicle apparently traveling northbound ran a stop sign and was struck by another vehicle traveling eastbound. The driver of the vehicle that ran the stop sign, a man in his mid-30s, was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

A female passenger in that car was seriously injured, but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the other vehicle was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Gill said at least one of the occupants of the vehicle that ran the stop sign was not wearing a seatbelt. Both occupants are from Sedgwick County. The family of the deceased victim has been notified.

β€œThis is an intersection we’ve worked multiple accidents at before,” Gill said. β€œI’m sure people run these stop signs all the time, and there just happened to be someone there today that caused a collision.”

GIll said excessive speed was not believed to be a factor. He said authorities would be on the scene until at least 1 p.m. and probably later.

Dispatch confirmed one person was killed in an accident near 21st St and 295th St W. in western Sedgwick County.

The call came in just after 9 a.m. Friday, with two people seriously injured and one other not breathing. That patient was later pronounced dead.

Dispatch said two vehicles were involved in the crash. We will have more information as it becomes available.
